If you think you have to spend a lot to get a lot, well I can tell you, that is not always the case. And here are two very fine examples for your consideration.
First up, Domaine Monpertuis 2009 Cote du Rhone. Normally I avoid Cotes du Rhone for the very fact that they are often overly ripe and overly alcoholic. Not so here. Fresh, honest Cotes du Rhone fruit as it should be. Hard not to like.
Second up, Gulfi 2009 Cerasuolo di Vittoria. This came as a great recommendation Jeremey Parzen & Co. at Sotto in LA, where it is a house favorite. It’s Sicilian and rich and different and noteworthy and organic. And while Sicilian wines can get over done due to the hot climate, this is not one of those wines.
Domaine Monpertuis 2009 Cotes de Rhone – $15.96
An exotic cherries jubilee of a wine topped with fresh mint. Fresh and delicious. Impossible not to like. Purchased at Astor Wines. HIGHLY RECOMMENED – EXCELLENT VALUE
Gulfi 2009 Cerasuolo di Vittoria – $18.99
Sicilian magic strikes again Fresh leather dipped in Marsala wine then coated in chocolate and tawny fruit. Different and delicious. Organic too. Nero d’Avola 50%, Frappato 50%. Purchased at Astor Wines. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – EXCELLENT VALUE
