Julien Sunier Morgon

I can’t help but thinking of Burgundy when I drink Cru Beaujolais, and vice versa.  And I can’t help thinking about a conversation with a friend who suggested that Burgundy is always reaching for the stars, for a pinnacle if you will.  While other wines, such as Cru Beaujolais, are so firmly rooted in the earth.  These thoughts ran through my mind whilst drinking this gorgeous bottle of 2011 Morgon from Julien Sunier.  Such a sense of stoney fruit, of earth, and oh so drinkable.  The Sunier Morgon drinks well on its own and with food; one of the genius twists that makes great Cru Beaujolais such a gem of a wine.  This particular bottle is certainly one of the best bottle of Cru Beaujolais I have had in some time, and I cannot wait to try more from this break out producer.  There does not seem to be a lot of info on this producer out there, but he is working in as natural and honest way as possible, and he buys used barrels from Roumier, not a bad calling card.  Readily available in the NYC market right now, though I doubt for long given the outstanding quality.  Imported by Polaner.  Purchased at Frankly Wines for the paltry sum of $25.99.
