On an average Wednesday night we wound up at the last moment at Café Select, as my buddy Kev needed one of their European inspired dishes to satisfy his post soccer hunger.  Kev swears by Café Select’s eclectic mix of German, Swiss, Italian, and other standard fare.  The ambiance was nice and the crowd was beautiful and the food was pretty solid.  I ended up with the Veal Schnitzel and Kev had the Zurich Veal with Spaetzli.  Mine was solid, his was even better.  They also have a Fondue & Raclette room – next time.

Cascina Ca’ Rossa 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo ~$20.00

As for the wine, the list is also pretty eclectic if brief, and I zeroed in on a 2009 Langhe Nebbiolo from Cascina Ca’ Rossa.  I am not familiar with this producer, but it was excellent Langhe Nebbiolo with fresh aromas of floral lavender and a nice little hit of stinky earth.  It is made simply with vinification in stainless steel vats to preserve freshness and sees 3 months in bottle before release.  It looks like you can pick up a bottle at retail for about $20 bucks and it goes down a treat.  Imported by T. Edward Wines.  RECOMMENDED
